I'm celebrating over here because the book I illustrated is #2 on Calgary Herald's bestsellers list. I made 30 full page, full color illustrations for this book or comedic short fiction by Jon Paul Fiorentino.
Here is an interview with the Rusty Toque. Jon Paul talks about the process of making the book.
Short fiction by Jon Paul Fiorentino. 30 full page, full color illustrations by myself. These last ones that Jon Paul wanted with Teen Wolf and some other of Archie drove me bonkers but I'm glad I did them in the end cause now we have stuff like this:"Teen Wolf Quotes Slavoj Zizek"
I am bringing this blog back to life. Resuscitation will involve some travelling back in time. I will catch up on all I have been up to since I have last posted. (It has been a long long long time). But first, I want to talk about right now. I am just finishing up a book called " I Am Not Afraid of You or Anything". This is a book of short stories written by my pal/fellow neer-do-well and talented writer Jon Paul Fiorentiono. I illustrated a whole bunch (30 at this point) of full page colour drawings that are the other component of the book. The book is being published by Anvil Press in 2014. http://www.anvilpress.com/ I'm trying to teach myself animation by creating gifs with the drawings from the book. So this is my first gif ever, more to come.
I was nominated under the Pigskin Pete award that recognizes non-traditional and avant-garde comics by Canadian artists. Taking a look at the other nominees, I am totally pleased to be in this category.
The nominees for Best Book are:
Bigfoot by Pascal Girard (Drawn and Quarterly)
Chimo by David Collier (Conundrum Press)
Lose #2 by Michael DeForge (Koyama Press)
Moving Pictures by Kathryn Immonen, Stuart Immonen (Top Shelf Productions)
I launched my book in Montreal at the Drawn and Quarterly store in Montreal on Nov.12 (see poster below). Then, all that weekend, I sold my book at Expozine alongside the Conundrum Press table. Andy Brown took a few photos of the launch at d&q, and me and Sarah Burwash at our table at Expozine next to Sherwin Tija. Expozine makes for a very long day, drinking beer and taking a nap is just par for the course.
